On The Connotative Development Of "Specialized Subject-to-Undergraduate Education"

Specialized subject-to-undergraduate education is a new creative mode for the students in vocational education(junior college level).Before they get the self-taught bachelor diploma,the students have to finish the junior college education first,then,they could enroll in the specialized subject-to-undergraduate major.Under the guidance of the undergraduate teaching assistance in the students' vocational colleges,they would pass all of the courses of the specialized subject-to-undergraduate major in order to get the bachelor diploma.Since 2008,this creative mode has become a positive tendency.Our national higher education is "transforming from the extensive development,characterized by the extension of quantity and space,to the intensive development,characterized by the optimism of the quality and the structure".As an informal education mode,the specialized subject-to-undergraduate major mode should take a long sustainable way by making an intensive development to ensure its quality,to find its orientation,to optimize its structure and to play its own role.This paper starts from the history and current situation of the self-taught exam education,categorizing its developments and stating clearly the background,the development tendency and the comparative advantages of the specialized subject-to-undergraduate major mode,which is the historical basis and logical starting point of this research.Our national higher education self-taught examination system was founded in 1981.There has been a deep background behind it:to improve our higher education in a poor environment;to inherit our traditional culture;to convey the life-long education idea;and to be guided by the state plan.After experiencing the embryonic period,the molding period,and the plastic phase,the self-taught exam is facing a developing environment:how to target its goal,how to cultivate the personnel,how to develop the mode,how to adjust its structure,how to evaluate it and how to manage it.Under such background,the specialized subject-to-undergraduate major mode appears since the self-taught exam education plays 'a universal interface' role as bridge to connecting the personnel cultivation with the higher vocational education.Up to now,there is quite few empirical research on the specialized subject-to-undergraduate major mode during the document review.Therefore,this thesis focuses on the empirical research,mainly on the scale and structure of the mode,the management of the teaching and the students,the quality of the current situation and so on.Meanwhile,the thesis also centers on the current problems and further perspective,based on designing the research investigation,developing the methodology tool and analyzing the result.800 questionnaire papers were delivered to the interviewees,among which 793 were valid.The results show that the students have a low satisfaction with the courses of the specialized subject-to-undergraduate major,while they have a high satisfaction with the teaching of it.Among the course system,the interviewees show the lowest satisfaction with the "practice arrangement",mainly due to "too less real practice".Among the investigation of teaching practical courses,the score is the last but one,indicating the students' least satisfaction with the whole arrangement,the teaching and the evaluation of the practice part.The course pass rate has a negative correlation with the degree of the satisfaction with the teachers,indicating that the specialized subject-to-undergraduate major mode is still exam-oriented.Furthermore,the students' degree of satisfaction is influenced partly by the demographic characteristics,the learning service and support system in the vocational colleges,and the students' interest,recognition and devotion to the specialized subject-to-undergraduate major mode.Nowadays,the specialized subject-to-undergraduate major mode is supported by the developing environment of the vocational education in Jiangsu self-taught exam system.However,it may face a crisis if the current problems are not solved.On the basis of the research and analysis,this thesis puts forward its solution that the specialized subject-to-undergraduate major mode should try to set up an evaluation system steering the vocational education,with the combination of the empirical experience,the higher education and life-long education theories,and the research of the intensive development strategy and path.Compared to the formal education,the specialized subject-to-undergraduate major mode is poor in the awareness of the development,of the problem,of the service and of the reform.Meanwhile,the intensive development has its own features,with the complicated personnel cultivation procedures and diversified quality values.Therefore,the supply-side reform should be promoted in the field of the major,the course,and the chief structure,based on the full analysis of the vocational education essence and the cultivation target of the applied technicians.The vocational education's feature of "learning by doing" should be exemplified by the intensified cooperative cultivation mode,the deepened reform of the teaching,the strengthened practice of the knowledge,and the emphasized application ability.Flipped classes should be tried as a method of autonomous learning for the students.The advantages and features of the specialized subject-to-undergraduate major mode could be illustrated better by perfecting the learning support system,fastening the digital core subjects development and probing the new pattern of mobile learning or fragmented learning.Lastly,a supervisor's assessment,the students' satisfaction degree and pass rate constitute a quality evaluation system of the specialized subject-to-undergraduate major.
