Teachers are the foundation of education and the source of revitalizing education.The stronger education is imperative for a stronger country,the prerequisite for which is a stronger team of teachers.This is an important strategic planningof Xi Jinping's socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era.It shows the firm determination and historical vision of the Central Committee of China's Communist Partyinrunning education in a people-satisfied way and in giving priority to the development of education.Universities and colleges are the cradle of talent cultivation,the highland of ideological convergence,and also an important source of impetusfor a nation's continuous self-improvement and prosperity.The ideological characters,value orientations,cultural tastes and spiritual states of university and colleges teachers are the key factorsin determining whether higher educational institutions can cultivate “the new generations who can take the responsibilityforthenational rejuvenation,” which consequently have an direct impact on the growth and development of contemporary university and collegestudents.Theprerequisitefor the proper cultivation of the new generationsin the new era is to have “new teachers of the new era”.The main line running through those major statements put forward by Xi Jinping is to accurately answerthe fundamental questionsabout“who to teach,how to teach and for whom to teach”.Meanwhile,there lies another deep question behind the “three-person project”of talent cultivation in higher educational institutions-i.e.,“who will teach”.It is undoubtedly the university and college teachers' duty to accomplish the mission of implementing the morality-education project in higher educational institutions.Under the background of profound changes undergoing in principal social contradictions,an irreversibly powerful and epochal voice is produced in the grand process of building a country with strong educational power for a new era,where the sound development of the team of university and college teachers is promoted by the construction of teachers' ethics,and the dream creators are forgedfor the dream team of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.Since the 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China opened a new era for the socialism with Chinese characteristics,the Party's Central Committee,with Xi Jinping as its core,has attached great importance to the fundamental role of the construction of university and college teachers' ethics in strengtheningmoral education and running socialisthigher educational institutions with Chinese characteristics.It has also put forward a series of new concepts,new ideas and new strategies for the construction of university and college teachers' ethics,showing the distinct characteristics of the new era and the comprehensive system.All of these offersignificant theoretical grounds and action guides for the research on the construction of teachers' ethics in higher educational institutionsfor a new era.The construction of university and college teachers' ethicsfora new era is under the guidance of Xi's thought of socialism with Chinese characteristics for the new era and has absorbed traditional Chinese teachers' historical wisdom as well as brilliant foreign experience.Manynew features are revealed in the construction course,including new ideas,new problems,new goals,new methods,etc.,which are the consequences of the new historical orientation,the new development space as well as the new principal social contradictions?Strengthening and improving the construction of university and college teachers' ethicsfora new era constitutes acrucialpart of building the ideological and political system of higher educational institutions,proposes an important measure to comprehensively deepen the reform of the construction of teachers' team in the new era,and also offers a basic project to cultivate new generations in the new era.The profound changes in the principal social contradictions in the new era have determinedthatproblem-oriented and goal-orientedideas must be introduced in constructing teachers' ethics in higher educational institutions,where a few existing issues should be focused on,such as the unity of teaching knowledge and educating souls,the unity of teaching by words and teaching by deeds,the unity of devotion to research and attention to society,as well as the unity of academic freedom and academic norms.Meanwhile,a long-term mechanism needs to be establishedand improved,and a target of training good teachers with “four possessions”needs to be set.As a result,the harmonious scenarios will be reached through innovative methods wherethe construction of university and college teachers' ethics is combined with thepartybuildinginhigher educational institutions,coordinated with the comprehensive law-based administration of education,unified with the ideological and political work,integrated with information technology,and connected with the reform of the teachers' appraisal system,hence the realization of the overall improvement of teachers' ethical levels in higher educational systems.
