The sol-gel technology can form a transparent and strong-adhesion oxide film of metal or non-metal. Using the sol-gel technology in the color fixing on textiles has great fixing effect to dyes, which could improve the color performances of anionic dyes. This application will reduce the water pollution of printing and dyeing, and enhance our competitive power in the international market. Moreover, we could change the chemical or physical characters of sol system greatly according to the different textile requirements. According to the theory of cationic dye-fixatives and the rational of the sol-gel preparation, this work utilizes sol-gel technology for the preparation of cationic sol system, and applies it to dyeing and sprayed-textile printing, hoping for improving the characters of textiles.Cationic sol was prepared by sol-gel method with tetraethoxysilane as precursor. In the preparation of the cationic sols, the influence of the reactant ratio and preparation condition on the sol characters have discussed, and also studied the influence of reactant ratio on the sol characters by adjusting the ratio of hydrolyzed cationic-substance, precursor, catalyst, water and alcohol. The diameter of the prepared sol is about 2.6nm. The chemical structure of the sol was analyzed by the FT-IR spectrum.The stabilities of cationic sol system have been discussed by the value of viscosity and gel time and the discussed factors include the environment of acid, alkali, electrolyte and temperature. The results show that the stability of the sol in the acid circumstance is fine, and the sol is still stable in 100g/L HCl. But it is poor in the alkali condition, the stability of the sol will be destroyed in 80g/L NaOH in 1h. The results also show that the sol stability is closely related with the setting temperature, the higher the temperature is, the quicker the gather speed is, and the worse the sol stability will be. While the damaging effects of the electrolyte is comparatively weak. The sol system will gel in 8d in 0.2mol/l NaCl, and generally the gelling time is shortening with the increasing of electrolyte concentration.Furthermore, the application of cationic sol in fixing process of textiles were discussed by testing the rubbing, washing and lighting of treated/untreated textiles of reactive dye and spray print. The results indicate that the surface of printing textiles treated with cationic sol will increase the volume of color, change the color depth, and reduce the color saturation slightly, but has little effect on the color light. The treatment by sol could enhance the rubbing fastness and washing fastness, and its improvement could reach more than a half. That the 2B and HB of the treated textiles increase in some sort, while the softness decrease a bit.The study shows that the use of composite sol improved the light fastness of dyeing textiles greatly, while the color and light of the textiles had no change. Its influence on the light fastness had a certain relation with the dyeing depth, and it influence is more significant on light textiles than dark textiles. With the extension of lighting time, the light fastness of textiles treated by sol is increasing, and theΔE value of textiles dyed by red B-3G dye could improve 50% after 120 h. Meanwhile, the rubbing fastness and washing fastness of textiles will also be enhanced, in about a half degree.
