The technology of numerical simulation of casting is a combining product of computer science and foundry. It brings new vitality to the traditional casting industry. Currently, the technology has been widely used in foundry section. So far, several numerical simulation softwares have been developed, such as ProCAST in France, MAGMA in Germany and InteCAST in China.The fast developing computer network has completely changed the world, and has impacted every aspect of our lives. If we can combine numerical simulation technology and computer network together, it must be a new developing direction of casting numerical simulation.In this paper, a new remote and automatic solidification simulation system has been developed which uses Windows Sockets network communication application programming interface. It's based on the client/server model and uses the automatic version InteCAST.Firstly, several different kinds of network communication models are compared and analyzed, and C/S model is chosen to be the suitable one. Besides, the whole process of the remote automatic solidification simulation system is analyzed and designed which standing on a macro point of view.Secondly, the paper analyzes the principle of system's network communication and the technology. Based on the TCP/IP protocol and Windows Sockets technology, a new method is developed, which fits for the system. At the same time, the system has been completed for the one-to-more model and multi files'transmission.Thirdly, the client side system is researched and accomplished, which includes the network check-in module and 3D solid modeling displaying module. The multi projects parallel managing mode, the network communication module and the structure of CPS file are also in it.Finally, the server side system is finished. It's under the mode of automatically work, including listening automatically, calculating automatically and returning the results automatically. There are also some assistant modules in the system, such as log file management, parameter management and project control.Practical application shows that this system can be useful in the field of remote solidification simulation calculating. With the help of powerful server, it can save a lot of time, improve the efficiency, and has great value to research and practice.
