Rig transverse moving device is a very important part of jack-up platform. It is large-scale complicated offshore mechanism and withstands heavy load. Its operational convenience and strength property are very important to the safety of the whole platform. The possibility of failure is considerable under the load of thousands of tons .So rig transverse moving device must be designed reasonably and checked.The research takes rig transverse moving device of 300 feet jack-up platform as background. Firstly, based on the traditional device a new mechanism is proposed in which the sliding pairs are replaced by the rolling pairs. Then, the corresponding design and calculation is done.Secondly, Non-linear contact analysis is carried out on the machinery frame by ANSYS software and the stress concentration problems of roller are found out. Different rolling bodies are taken into consideration. Under the premise of strength and rigidity, the improved roller structure makes lower contact stress, reduces the weight of rollers, obtains a more ideal shape and size, and implements automatic alignment.Finally, based on finite element analysis the nSoft software is used to accomplish fatigue analysis on the rollers. It is shown that the fatigue life of rollers meets the design requirements. So the improved structure is approved.The research on Rig Transverse Moving Device provides some reference value for the design and engineering applications.
