Wind energy is an inexhaustible supply of green energy, which is widespread concerned around the world. At present, China has become the second largest energy consumer in the world. Rational development and utilization of wind resources is of vital importance to the environmental protection and sustainable development of economy. As the major of clean energy, the wind energy industry development must be build on the basis of wind energy resource assessment.By using MM5 and MM5/CALMET coupled model which based on reanalysis data of NCEP/NCAR from May 1st,2009 to April 30th,2010, sounding and surface observation data of Micaps in Jiangsu area, numerical modeling the wind energy in this area. MM5/CALMET coupled model is much more accurate and precise in numerical modeling the wind energy.1) The relative error between annual average wind speed which simulated by MM5/CALMET coupled model and observed wind speed at height of 70 meters is 12.7%, which has 3.4 percentage points lower than MM5; 2) Influences of surface conditions on wind speed is more significant in MM5/CALMET coupled model; 3) The frequency of wind direction and wind power density direction simulated by MM5/CALMET coupled model is more consistent with observation data.In the simulation results are evaluated based on the use MM5/CALMET simulation results with the program, Jiangsu Province, an analytical assessment of wind resources, the specific distribution characteristics,1) distribution of wind energy resources in Jiangsu Province showed a decreasing state from east to west, coastal wind energy density Significantly higher than inland areas, Tai Lake and Hongze Lake and other large inland water area is the most abundant wind resources of the region; 2), Jiangsu Province, the increase in wind energy density increases with altitude, in the 70m height, Hongze Lake and other large water areas wind energy density in the 300~350 W·m-2 between the coastal wind energy density in the 390 W·m-2 above, which Lianyungang, Nantong Qidong and coastal wind energy density of 450 W·m-2 above, can be used as the main use of regional wind energy resources.3) The distribution of Jiangsu Province, with seasonal changes in wind obviously, the highest density in winter wind, sea and land significantly different, the basic wind energy density in the province 170W·m-2 above, coastal wind power density of up to 480 W·m-2 or so, the fall Wind power density of small, uniformly distributed in most parts of the province in the 60~180 W·m-2 between.4) refer to "wind energy resource measurement and assessment of technical requirements in the provision of wind energy resources in Jiangsu province divisions, the results show that the Lianyungang and Nantong Qidong can serve as a key part of coastal development object.
