Fused deposition modeling ,or FDM is a complicated and advanced manufacturing technology .It involves many technics and several factors which effect the precision of the model in the whole process . Warping deformation is a main factor which effects the processing model. And the scanning method is a very important factor for Fused deposition modeling. Study of the influence of the scanning method for FDM is the key issue of this thesis.For decreasing the warping deformation of parts, a new scanning method– Zonal &side-by-side scanning is brought forward. Side-by-side scanning is a improvement of parallel scanning. The purpose of zonal idea is to reduce the idle stroke and long scanning lines. This method also can improve the scanning efficiency .The Zonal & side-by-side method fell all the strong points of these two methods together .Now , this idea has been used in the experiment and got a great achievement.The working of the Fused deposition modeling is simulated in the"birth & death"module of the ANSYS which is a large scale software. Building the rational finite element model ,the stress and warping deformation of whole prototyping process is analyzed by different scanning methods. The conclusion provides a theoretical basis for the rational choice of process parameters. The advantages of Zonal & side-by-side method and the scanning influence of side-by-side index is summarized by comparing the stress of simulation and the influence of warping deformation by the scanning methods. The conclusion of simulation for scanning along long & short side is the same to the theory . At the same time, the whole simulation prove that the scanning method is a extremely important factor which influences the warping deformation . The research of the scanning method is crucial for Rapid Prototyping technology whenever in the past or future.
