Under the circumstances of putting new railway lines into use or improving passenger train speed or increasing freight train tonnage or reforming driving system, Train traction test has become one foundational technical job. It provides scientific data for railway administration to make management decision and transportations plan, to dug potential and increase profit. In this paper, a data acquisition system for traction test vehicle has been studied and designed. The system includes tw.o subsystems: one is traction test data acquisition system; another is railway lines video data acquisition system.On the premise of that the former traction test data acquisition system should been changed small as possible, a solution, that making full use of the data from locomotive monitoring device, had been presented to resolve the railway ranging error problem by analyzing the constitutes of the former system and the reason of the railway ranging error. By applying serial port communication technology, it has been implemented that traction test data acquisition system communicate with moving monitoring register equipment to receive its data in real time. Thus the railway ranging error problem of traction test data acquisition system had been resolved .Railway lines video data acquisition system designed in this paper can not only acquire and compress railway lines video data in real time but also form index data that can be used for searching and positioning frame in latter playing video. The index data has been formed by analyzing video stream to get frame information and receiving moving monitoring register equipment' s data from serial port. Using index data, Railway video player designed in this paper can search and position frame according to given kilometer as well as display kilometer and position by drawing track graph whenplaying.The system had application in traction test vehicle of Guangzhou Rail Group Co.. Through testing on site, it was proved that the system design had get desire goal, and was rationality and practicability.
