On account of the rapid development of industry and business, modern cities have become one " popular society " .The social intercourse of townsmen has changed a lot,and the decline of social intercourse in residential quarters is one common characteristic in modern industrialized cities and towns.The author did plenty of observing and research on account of outdoors public substantial environments in Kunming's residential quarters,and analysed the reasons that led the social intercourse's decline in Chinese town residential quarters. Ultimately,the auther found the common and radical factor which led the decline of intercourse among residents in town residential quarters was the decrease of factors arosing intercourse.The traditional architectural theory pays attention to improving the public substantial environment.It has improved townsmen's positivity arosing intercourse,but it ignores the substantial factors arosing intercourse and the transform from intercourse probability to the fact that residents in town residential quarters hold intercourse with each other.Thereout,this paper brings forward the theory of "functional space guiding",and try to realize more transform from intercourse chance to residents' intercourse in modern town residential quarters.
