Green Manufacturing (GM) is a modern manufacturing strategy, which is imperativefor the 21 st century manufacturing industry, integrating all the issues of manufacturing and its ultimate goal is to reduce and minimize environmental impact and resources consumption during life cycle of the product, which includes design, production, packaging, transportation, use and disposal. Green Manufacturing Process Planning (GMPP) is one of the key technologies of GM, and its goal is to reduce the resource consumption and environmental pollution in the manufacturing processes by the optimization decision and plan of process element planning, process course planning and the assessment of the multi-process projects. With the support of National 863 Plan Project: "The Study on the Key Enabling Technology of Process Planning for Green Manufacturing and Application Supporting System" and Hubei province Natural Science Fund Project: "The Study on Process Planning Method of Green Manufacturing and Practical Technology", the strategy and implementation technique of Green manufacturing process will be researched in depth, moreover, the technologies of process element planning and its assessment will be syst atically researched.1. The source and research significance is introduced firstly, and the research actuality inside and outside of our country of green manufacturing and green manufacturing process planning is summarized, on the basis of that, the trend of development and the application and industrialization foreground of green manufacturing is analyzed.2, Based on the analysis and conclusion of the connotation and characteristic of green manufacturing process planning, a new green manufacturing process planning strategy based on the model set is put forward. To realize the strategy, the decision-making problem of green manufacturing process planning can be decomposed into a serial of sub models, such as process element planning, process course planning and the assessment of the multi-process. Based on the resolution of the sub models incorporating the above methodsinto the blackboard, the strategy can be realized.3. In allusion to the selection problem such as machine, tool and fluid of Green manufacturing process element, the objective sets of the decision problem are put forward, which include five decision-making objective factors: Time (T), quality (Q), cost (C), environmental impact (E), resource consumption (R), and the corresponding multi-objective decision-making models are developed. A case study on hobbing machines, nobbing tools and cutting fluid selection in the hobbing process for green manufacturing is performed to illustrate and examine the model.4. On the basis of the analysis of the indexes system of the resource consumption and environmental impact of Green manufacturing process, the environmental impact framework of Green manufacturing process element is proposed, moreover, the quantization method of that is studied through establishing the detailed list table for the description and evaluation of resource consumption and environmental impact of Green manufacturing process. After that, an evaluation method is presented to assess resource consumption and environmental impact of the process element planning and the whole routing of the product manufacturing. A case study of gear production is performed to illustrate and examine the method presented.5. By application of the above theories, a subsystem of green manufacturing process element planning is developed, which is a key module of GMPPASS. The system is applied in Chongqing Machine Tool Works, which can make an optimum decision of the process element (hobbing machine, hobbing tool and fluid) and assessment of the process element planning in the hobbing machining process.
