Motion Control is widely used in industry, national defense, and people's daily lives. However, the architecture of current motion controller has many shortcomings, such as huge size, not supporting network communication. At solving these problems, this paper does some research on the architecture of motion controllers by using system-on-chip technology and embedded Internet solutions. This paper first analyzes system-on-chip technology and embedded Internet solutions. Embedded Internet solutions can be classified as centralized solution and distributed solution. Compared to centralized solution, distributed solution has more advantage in low system cost, open and portable characters. IP-based design methodology and platform-based design methodology are two System-on-chip design methodology in common use. This paper analyses them and point out that it is the best solution to design System-on-chip by using platform-based design methodology on programmable chip. This solution has both the advantage of platform-based design methodology in design complexity and the advantage of IP-based design methodology in flexibility.Based on the above analysis, this paper does some research on the architecture of motion controllers by using system-on-chip technology and embedded Internet solutions and proposes a new motion controller architecture, featured with single-chip and network enabled. The new architecture supports long-distance movement control by Internet. In order to prove the feasibility of proposed architecture, a prototype, SoC_Eweb_step is built on EPXA1 development board(Excalibur series) manufactured by Altera, Ltd.. SoC_Eweb_step implements the most function of motion controllers on a chip by using system-on-chip technology and achieve the advantage in power consumption and size. SoC_Eweb_step implements the function of network communications by running an embedded Web Server on the ARM embedded in Excalibur. During this process, this paper simplifies the full TCP/IP stack and implement an embedded Web Server, Eweb. It is suitable for the application environment of low data flux and short data length. Finally, a test platform is built to test the prototype system in terms of remote control, network security and network parameter configuration. The results show that, users can control a remote motor by sending commands in a Web browser, canconfigure the system network parameter through the Hyper Terminal in Windows, and the prototype system can't receive the IP packet that isn't sent from the control consumer. The correctness of the prototype system proves the feasibility of the proposed architecture.
