After China enters into the WTO, enterprises confront more competitive pressure and opponents because of market globalization. Engineering products is characterized with the complex structure, the long developing period, high manufacturing cost, which limits the development of our enterprises. With the speedup of product renewal, the decrease of developing product period, the reduction of cost, the high request for quality, whether enterprises can win in the competition depends on the entire competence of enterprises, namely depend on it's information integration, intelligence integration, resource integration, technique integration and process integration, which makes enterprise optimized in all aspects. Virtual design and manufacture make it feasible.This thesis combined with the XinZhu Company's cooperation item-the research and manufacture of cool milling machine lately. The concurrent Engineering way was adopted in this project that the school and company proceeds the design together, namely the structure and shape was designed by school, at the same time, the system design of electric appliances and hydraulic pressure control design by the XinZhu company lately. Through mutually feedback and cooperation, finally the whole design of this project was completed.Based on the function and shape structures analysis of the same kind of product that came from home and overseas, the system engineering analysis to the cool milling machine was applied. Firstly, the cool milling machine was divided into several parts according function, then the form of each module was made sure. Aftermerit, demerit and feasibility of different technique route was compared, each kind of technical scheme to the development of cool milling machine was confirmed. Further more, these internal techniques with the exterior structure was integrated and become a good corresponding relation.According to requirement of ergonomics and product appearance which the industry design requires, the structure was optimized , the embryo of the cool milling machine was shaped. Then the embryo was modified and perfected. In the SolidWorks'software environment, the 3D modeling parts were builded. After all the 3D modeling parts were completed, the whole cool milling machine was virtual assembled and inspected for interference. Finally the detail decorative figure and color was designed, the rendered 3D model of this machine appeared. Through date exchanging, the 3D model was gained in the 3DMAX. According to the running and structure request for the cool milling machine, the simulating animations were made whice includeed animation of the running, rising and fall of cool milling machine, bending and unbending of transporting equipment, milling and transporting scrap. These simulating animations were used for project validation and product advertisement.Now this cool milling has passed designing confirmation and the prototype also has been manufactured, which validates that the design of this virtual prototype is rational, feasible and practical.
