As the development tendency of marine electrical propulsion, podded electrical propulsion have been widely applied abroad owing to its excellent characteristics. However, at our country, attention paid to it is far from enough. There is a wide gap between internal and external researches, whether in the software or the hardware. So it is necessary and significative to do some primary study about this field.In this paper, first, will simply introduce the development actuality of electrical propulsion, particularly analyze the configuration and technology advantage of podded electrical propulsion system .Then introduce the frequency conversion and PLC technology, which is widely used in today's podded electrical propulsion.In allusion to the operation feature of double-podded electrical propulsion slewing system, an experimental slewing control system will be designed next. This experimental slewing control system was constituted with PLC and frequency converter.And can realize the functions of the two pods' 360 degree slewing, double-podded' slewing speed closed loop conctrol and the slewing position examine.All the workload included the design of hardware and software.Using this years' correlative information for reference, the research about double-podded electrical propulsion slewing system discussed in this paper has inherited and developed the technique of electrical propulsion. We wishes it will be helpful for the development and application of the inland's electrical propulsion. We can use it as a important element of the double-podded electrical propulsion system. This design also be helpful for the construction of our school's electrical propulsion laboratory.
