The Study Of Contemporary Neo-vernacular Architecture Practice In China

With constant promotion of globalization, the subject of Neo-vernacular architecture causes people's attention and concern gradually. But Chinese architect lack systematic understanding to Neo-vernacular architecture theory and the study on it is still at the starting stage. Even so, Chinese architect also has carried on some tries to Neo-vernacular architecture in recent years, and have built up a set of outstanding works. This paper carries on preliminary analysis and study on the Neo-vernacular architecture that come out to emerge in recent years in China.This paper defines the concept of "Neo-vernacular", and differentiates "Neo-vernacular" from other concepts interrelated. On this basis, through the retrospection of the background and history of Neo-vernacular architecture, the paper introduces the characteristics of Neo-vernacular architecture in different periods both in China and overseas. Then it analyses some typical works of contemporary Neo-vernacular architecture in China and points out their characters. At the meantime, the paper also generalizes the principle and methods of designers. At last, it introduces some experiences of foreign architects, then presents the perspective of Chinese Neo-vernacular architecture design and some issues that should be paid attention to in the future.
