Load compensation utilizing static var compensator(SVC) is the most importantmethod to improve power quality. Therefore, optimal design for SVC ,which insuresSVC operation security and economization , becomes research hotspot.Based on MATLAB softerware and mathematical model, the optimal design programfor SVC is developed. The program completed basic calculation, such as impedancecalculation and short circuit capability calculation. SVC parameters were optimized,including the capability for thyristor controlled reactor , the capacity allocation betweenpassive filters as well. These parameters were calibrated in order to meet the peration.The program simulated the operation results and evaluated effects on point of commoncoupling from disturbing load as well. Finally ,with one design case , the dissertationexhibited the main function of blocks, and demonstrated how to use the software. Thecase results of is consistent with the operating conditions, which verifies the rationalityand validity of this program.
