At present, distribute of China’s primary energy resources is unbalanced, transmission and distribution gird lacks reactive power, spare capacity is not enough. Especially regulation of reactive power compensation device is not flexible. As the reactive power is deficient, grid losses increases, qualification rate of voltage decreases, transmission capacity of lines is reduced, and network stability declines. Meanwhile, with the development of national economy, heavy industry load increases rapidly, many users of heavy industry are also a source of power quality pollution. The pollution load causes the power quality problems, such as harmonics, voltage fluctuations, flicker, negative sequence, etc.; thus relevant technical measures must be taken to control this.According to the practical problems existing in the current power grid industrial areas, this thesis raises the importance and urgency of dynamic reactive power compensation, analyses domestic and international development, production and application in this area, dissects the advantages and disadvantages of the early devices compared with the modern equipment. Thyristor-based static var compensator which is an advanced dynamic power factor compensation device, has stable and reliable performance, complete function, high real-time, and can quickly and automatically track without human intervention, and has advantages of fast response, flexible control, continuous adjustability, etc., fully meeting the automation requirements. As a powerful tool on dynamic reactive power compensation, it gets more and more using from power grid and industrial users.SVC technology involves many aspects. This thesis only gives a deep research on architecture of all-digital SVC’s monitoring and regulating platform. Monitoring system works hierarchically in accord with the function distribution, which improves system reliability, and can be easily extended and maintained. This thesis also provides detailed study on processing of hardware principles, structural design, and software of the monitoring and regulation units and conducts tests whether their performance meets the requirementsIn the end, according to the research technology, it opens up engineering practices and application in various fields, and achieves good results.
