The traffic jams and congestion of the urban transportation is a problem which the each country must face to, it is not only a social problem but also a world difficult one. From 1990s last century, the nation economic grew fast and the citylization improved greatly in China. The problem, just like the population, the traffic jams and congestion, and the pollution, which happened in the west countries dozens years ago has been appear in China, and more worse, specially the traffic jams and congestion of the metropolitan. The urban traffic in China, including its hardware and software building, management, planning and development, can not fit for the development of the urban and its economic. The traffic jams and congestion has become the important problem the cities of our country must deal with. The traffic jams and congestion in China has occurred from the point to the line, and from some part urban to the whole urban. It influences the efficiency and quality of the city life, and leads to the social problems just like pollution. It also limits the development of the urban. So it should find the new ways to reduce the congestion with any delay. It request improving our study, stronger building, finding new ideals of the development and new ways of the management to urban traffic. Only in this way, it can pledge the development of the cities in China.Wuhan, as the metropolitan in the middle of China, also faces with the contradiction between the support and the demand of urban traffic. The background of this thesis is research the traffic jams and congestion of Wuhan. First of all, the thesis give the definition to the traffic jams and congestion, and explain the regulation and damage of it. Secondly, from urban road and public traffic, this thesis introduces the current situation of urban traffic in Wuhan. Thirdly, it analyzes the factors of the traffic jams and congestion in Wuhan, this part discusses two factors, one is the technology factor, the other is management factor. Then, the thesis evaluates the degree of the congestion in Wuhan. In this part, it sets up the model of the evaluation using the Analytic Hierarch Processmethod, and gives the evaluation. The result of it is available. At last, combining the situation of Wuhan and according to the experiences of the foreign countries, the thesis applies for the measures to overcome the traffic jams and congestion in Wuhan.
