In this paper, a measuring system of fragment average frontal area is researched. The system is suitable to measuring typical fragment frontal area. Combining the fragment average frontal area with the first fragment velocity, the first pellet velocity and fragment decline coefficient can be obtained. This method is more scientific and precise than the normal region cutting method.The controlling system of measuring fragment frontal area consists of a CCD camera, a absolutely moment motor, photoelectricity coder and a computer control cell. Combined with hardware and software, It makes measure the frontal area of fragment with the high-speed and high-precision. The system is simulated by the method of icosahedron and the copulate use of the direct current moment motor and photoelectricity coder .The system fulfils the direction of circumrotate and orientation of angle of luggage carrier and CCD camera. The system is characterized by high automatic measuring, simple mechanical structure, rapid real time, which will substitute for traditional manual method and optics electrical method. In the future the system can be applied to power testing departments widely.
