With the flying development of national economy, electric power system gets larger and larger, and also its structure gets more and more complicated. Because of the influence of man-made or nature, the whole electric power system always happened such-and-such faults, resulted in the system out of action. Therefore, it is the important task to guarantee electric power system running in reliable, safe and steady status, and improve the quality of power energy. The protection relay system is an automation system that it can reflect the fault and the deviant state of electric power system and drive the breaker's action or send out the fault message. The role of protection relay system is to cut off the fault module in automatic, rapid and selective manner and avoid to destroy the system.Microcomputer protection is the fourth age system and develops with the technology of computer and protection relay, and nowadays it is also a main task to research topic in the domain of protection relay. Based on comparison research of the traditional protection relay system, the paper puts forward and designs a universal embedded platform project of microcomputer protection system in detail. It had been practically applied in 110KV line protection, as a result it indicates that the system runs very well and satisfies the functions and indexes of system completely.The paper consists of the following chapters. Chapter 1 summarizes protection relay system and puts forward the research task. Chapter 2 puts forward a hardware project platform of microcomputer protection system after compared the traditional protection relay system. Chapter 3 analyzes and calculates the algorithm of microcomputer protection, and puts forward the algorithm of the new system. Chapter 4 designs the hardware platform's structure and modules of the microcomputer protection system. Chapter 5 shows the system configuration and program flow chart of the main module based on the 110kv-line protection relay system. Chapter 6 researches the electromagnetism jamming of microcomputer protection and puts forward some measures about anti-jamming. Finally, Chapter 7 sums up the research results and puts forward the prospect of future work.
