In present, the asphalt pavement in road construction mostly adopts the traditional material HMA (Hot Mix Asphalt). For HMA's requirement of high temperature, asphalt and aggregate must be heated to a high level in the process of construction. It not only consumes a large amount of energy but also emits abundant of emissions and fumes which threaten the surrounding environment and the health of workers during the operation of produce and construct. Therefore the usage of HMA causes negative effects which include environmental damage, excessive consumption of energy and shrink of living space for people. For these reasons, a new energy-saving and environment-protecting product WMA (Warm Mix Asphalt) is developed to fetch up the shortages of HMA. WMA is a kind of mix asphalt technology which can force asphalt to be mixed and compacted in a comparatively low temperature by the means of reducing its viscosity with the help of certain techniques. Meanwhile, it could maintain its performance which dose not below that of HMA.This paper attempts to study the WMA technology which can reduce asphalt viscosity with the assistance of low-melting-point viscosity-reducers. In the end of the paper, we found out that the viscosity-reducers, such as Sasobit or SLA, with a properly quantity mixed into the asphalt could effectively reduce asphalt's high temperature viscosity. It also could lower the mix and compaction temperature of the asphalt, and furthermore carry out its purpose of energy-saving and environment-protecting. In addition to the advantages mentioned above, the Sasobit or SLA with a properly quantity mixed into the asphalt are able to improve warm mix asphalt's high-temperature performance and to raise asphalt pavement's anti-rut capability and at the same time it has little influence on warm mix asphalt's low-temperature performance and water stability. The low-temperature performance and water stability mostly rely on the performance of base asphalt and other improved measures.
