Common Information Model (CIM) is the foundation of IEC61970. It is a kind of information model describing the logical framework and relationship of all objects in power system. It defined semanteme of changed information and provided the logical description of power system for each application that has nothing to do with platform. Using CIM as standard information model, the cost of date transferring between different applications will be the least. The receiving side knew the definition of information clearly when changing dateThe modern power system is a huge and complex system, which used closed loop control, including the generation,transmission,distribution and sale of power, involved in generation company,agent,market,big consumer. In order to model this system, the first step is found the class and property of the entry. The nonobjective description was so called metadata. Metadata is the date describing date, or the information about date content,quality or other character. As to power system, CIM is the metadata.The paper started from CIM Model, learned its definition and content deeply, including the packages of CIM,the classes of CIM and its relationship, studied how to build the power system modeling based on CIM.CIM has become the standard of data exchange of power system. Network topology analysis is base process for the advanced use of CIM date. Aiming at system model builed by CIM ,the topological analysis methods of CIM power network was presented model. It was finished by using the Breadth First Search, which quicken the search speed. It combined with the arrangement relationship of CIM, achieved part of network fast topology analysis.DC transmission technology are with large capacity and long distance of power transmission, which can save lots of materials and equipments, reduce original investment, and retrenched the cost. It's a trend of power transmission in our country. The paper started the CIM and AC/DC power system, made the extension of CIM to meet the demands of AC/DC power system. The concrete AC/DC power system was described based on CIM/XML. The extended CIM was proved by simple import program. At last, combining with UIB and COBRA, the developing trend of CIM was presented.
