The self-adjusting clutch is the new produce of the development of clutch technology. Comparing with conventional diaphragm spring clutches, it owns its advantages, which can maintain the invariable operating loads during the wearing of facing. Therefore it can reduce the actuation forces and improve the efficiency of torque transmission and driving comfort. The self-adjusting clutch has been developing since the 1990's abroad and employed in millions of vehicles. And its excellent performance has been proved by the thousands of testing and implementation. This paper provides the favorable data for possibility of the development of self-adjusting clutch and has a great prospect for the fulfillment of the homemade self-adjusting clutch by participating in the research of new product for a company.The paper analyses the characters of the self-adjusting clutches made by several companies aboard. Analyzed the self-adjusting clutches theoretically and its structural design; it presents the design of the sensor diaphragm spring. The paper makes the strength analysis for some key parts. The paper also makes the manufacturing process to produce the sample of self-adjusting clutch. The paper designs test bed and debugs a testing system for the self-adjusting clutch using MCGS software to draw the characteristic curve of self-adjusting spring clutch. Then by contrastive analysis of the characteristic curve in different condition of wearing, it is prove that the self-adjusting clutch can maintain the invariable operating loads during the wearing of facing.
