As a modern means of transport, the automobile is closely connected with people’s life. The clutch is an important part of automobile, it can adjust the torque according to the need. And the clutch engagement is essential for shifting comfortably and driving comfortably, in order to ensure the secure and stable operation of the vehicle, it is necessary to formulate a reasonable clutch engagement strategy.AMT transmission is developed on the basis of manual transmission, it retained the shift structure and clutch. It used the automatic control system that is controlled by the computer to replace the joint and shift action of the manual clutch, and can reduce the driver’s driving strength, improve the manipulation comfort and security. In the process of clutch engagement, the shock of AMT transmission will reduce the riding comfort. The focus of this article is to control the joint speed of the diaphragm spring clutch, to reduce the degree of shock and friction work, and at the same time to reduce the joint time and improve the vehicle riding comfort.The paper used a small car AMT clutch as the research object, analyzed the structure characteristics of the diaphragm spring clutch, the load characteristic and the bonding process. Using the MATLAB software to obtain the relationship between the deformation and the pressure of the diaphragm spring. Then selecting the main parameters that affecting the engagement of AMT diaphragm spring clutch, and controlled the clutch engagement by fuzzy controller, the PID controller and adaptive fuzzy PID controller.Using the Simulink/MATLAB to build the clutch engagement model, the resistance model and the model of the clutch actuate motor. Fuzzy controller is used to determine the ideal joint speed, and the PID controller and the adaptive fuzzy PID controller are used to control motor actuating of the clutch, and then analyzed the simulation results. The results show that the adaptive fuzzy PID controller can reduce the engagement impact and friction of the clutch, improve the joint performance and improve the riding comfort of vehicle.
