How to reinforce the asphalt pavement to improve the asphalt pavement's quality has always been an important problem the highway researchers facing. The fiber strengthened asphalt and rubber modified asphalt pavement are expectative, because of their eminent performance and economical preponderance.Polyester fiber and rubber modified asphalt is adopted in this paper. By comparing the pavement performance of three kinds of AC-13 which is dense-graded, lower-limit dense-graded is adopted. Four types of asphalt concrete are made, in which the fiber percent is 0, 0.15%, 0.25%, 0.35%. A series of experiments are carried on about the pavement performance of the asphalt concrete. The effect of different percent fiber reinforced and rubber modified asphalt on the pavement performance is comprehensively studied by the index of performance as below: the high-temperature stability indicated by Marshall Stability, the dynamic stability in rut test, three parameters in the RSCH; the anti-cracking ability under low temperature indicated by the tensile strength, crack strain, stiffness modules in bending asphalt beam test under low temperature; the water stability indicated by Marshall Stability left in immerged Marshall Test and freeze-thaw split ratio in freeze-thaw split test; skid resistance indicated by friction coefficient and TD; permeation resistance indicated by permeability-coefficient; fatigue property indicated by fatigue life in fatigue-test of asphalt beam carried on MTS. Both the mechanism of rubber modified asphalt and fiber reinforced asphalt are analyzed theoretically and compared. The test indicates that: the influence of fiber reinforced on the pavement performance of rubber modified asphalt concrete is most effective when the percent of fiber is about 0.20% of the weight of the asphalt mixture. From mechanicals, asphalt concrete reinforced by fiber is in the means of"alloy"while asphalt concrete modified by rubber is in the means of"composite", the rubber modified asphalt reinforced by fiber involves both merit of the means of"alloy"and"composite". Fiber could have further influence on the rubber modified asphalt pavement performance without the effect of the rubber on the asphalt reduced.
