As a new manufacture mode, Mass customization has drawn widely attention and been regarded as the development tendency of manufacturing in the new century, but traditional product design methods can not meet the requirements of customers, there is a need to look for a new design modeling method to adapt to the larger mass customization of products in the design process. This thesis deals with the key technologies of product design and put up a product development solution with a variety of design resources and tools: 3D parametric CAD technology, Selection Expert System, PDM, database technology and so on.The main work that has been done in this thesis is as following:In the stage of scheme design, the strategy for product assembly modeling is studied. Further discussion about the relationship between function model and assembly model is analyzed. Automatic mapping from function principle model to assembly model is realized in aid of relative motion liberty degree. The structure definition and data express of product assembly model, the realization of integration with assembly modeling, parameter modeling and feature-based modeling using assembly feature, and design procedure of assembly structure change are also presented.Secondly, regarding the situation that there are lots of component changes when design a damper, an in-depth study on assembly variant design has been taken. Basing on UG/CAD platform, a assembly model variant design method is established, by using "Basic model" and "seed part". Take A-type damper as an example, the thesis describes how to set up a damper model using skeletons and seed part, following Top-down design.Dealing with the current status that many application design tools are used for product development, this thesis discusses the integration collaborative approach of a variety of resource and tools, establishes a unified product data sources with PDM, Damper Selection Expert System, UG/CAD platform, focuses on product assembly topology information consistency of expression and the data communications between UG/CAD solid model and Selection Expert System.Through the re-development of Damper Selection Expert System and UG/CAD, the thesis set up a parametrical model template library and establishes the communication between the entity model and the output of the Damper Selection Expert System so that the output can be used to drive the model. Also the system links a variety of design resources and tools so as to provide possibilities to realize design of series products quickly, with a unified product data sources.Finally, the achievements and shortcomings of PDM_based integration system are summarized; the expectation of the future work is also put forward.
