The medium high-rise residential building is the most common type in housing development projects in recent years, which may use many kinds of structural systems. It is always the focus of the heated debate in the construction field that which kind of structural system is the most economical and reasonable. In this paper, taking the dwelling size of the residential buildings constructed by a real estate developing company in Shijiazhuang as the examples, and against the five structural systems including the shear wall structure, the short-limb shear wall structure, the specially-shaped column frame - shear wall structure, the rectangular column frame - shear wall structure and the rectangular column frame structure, the systematical analysis and comparison are performed in the cases of the 9-floors, 12-floors, and 15-floors residential buildings from three aspects as fellows.(1) The indices including the natural period, the vibration shape, the displacement and the shear weight ratio of the various structural systems are comprehensively investigated, and the global seismic performances of the various structural systems are compared.(2) The force states of different components including the bending moment, shear and axial force of the frame beam, link beam, specially-shaped column, short-limb wall, long-limb wall etc, of the various structural systems are further analyzed, and the force characteristics of various structural systems of various forms are summarized.(3) The steel and concrete consumptions of the various structural systems are calculated, and the economic analysis is performed.Through the summary on the characteristics of the various structural systems and the performance optimization on the various structural systems, the shear wall structure is proposed to be a most suitable structural system in the medium high-rise residential buildings currently. This provides a science basis for the structural design of the medium high-rise residential buildings.
