Brake is an important security guaranteed equipment, its function is to stop running in a short time; it can also be used to reduce or adjust the machine running speed in a short period. The quality of brake is very important and well-appointed test system and some excellent test equipments are the precondition to ensure product quality. At present most detecting equipments used by majority manufacturers are comprised of various instruments with individual testing function, so the equipments cost is quite high, and the data sharing is difficult among equipments, data unified processing and data hold are inconvenient, the degree of automation is low, and it is difficult to update the system. The appearance of Virtual instrument technology provides new ideas and technique means to solve abovementioned problems, and that make it possible to research high-performance and low-cost test system.Brake test system based on the virtual instrument and frequency conversion technique is used to comprehensive determine and analyze the brake's performance and used to replace the traditional brake test platform. Software is instrument which is the core of virtual instrument. This thesis based on the graphical programming software LabVIEW developed by American National Instrument Corporation is aimed to establish test system, complete real-time data collection, process, display and record, and analyze brake's performance.Proceeding from the principle of virtual instrument (VI) technology, brake testing system platform(include variable speed drives subsystem, control subsystems and test subsystem)based on Virtual Instrument and Frequency Conversion Technology is constructed, it can complete brake's performance testing(include block brake and disc brake)and running state automated control. This thesis mainly expatiate the principle, composition, functions and features of brake testing system. According to the overall design proposal of test system, the main design part - hardware and software is developed and its detailed introduce is made in this thesis. Hardware module include signal acquisition module, data acquisition card, signal conditioning module, frequency conversion control module and PC machine. Software section includes parameter setting and preservation, data collection, processing and analysis, measurement result read and output; error handling and so on.The brake test system based on virtual instrument and frequency conversion technology is powerful,(it can test various types of brakes, and it can test various items at the same time and analyze and output the test results). The operation panel is acceptable and it is easy to be operated. The cost is usually lower than the traditional test system cost, but the test efficiency is five times more than the current testing system. It also can conduct real-time data analysis and data processing; it can also be used to test other related products just through slightly modifying, so it have higher universality and it is convenient to update. The test system can simulate the brakes using statement and environmental conditions more realistic than before, and it can more realistically reflect the brake performance, and it can improve the research and development of brake and shorten development cycle of brake and the time of accessing to markets, so it plays an important role to improve the brake technology and realize safe operation of the brake equipments and its application systems. In one word, the virtual instrument will be more widely used in the testing and control field in the near future.
