The paper takes a single intersection as research object. Through the study of the signal control method for a single intersection, it is expected to improve the performance of a signal control. Signal combination is studied; micro-simulation system is set up, and then signal combination is tested by the simulation test.Firstly, a fuzzy controller based on phase combination is provided on the basis of analyzing the delay of the intersection. The phase combination is distinguished from the normal control styles, its phase and sequence can change with the traffic flow. The switch among the phases is according to the fuzzy control. The fuzzy control provides the extended time of the phase based on traffic flow.Secondly, through the study of the law of the vehicles in a single intersection, the traffic micro-simulation system is set up. The simulation system is developed by the object-oriented method using Visual C++. The system contains vehicle generation model, vehicle following model, vehicle lane-changing model, vehicle acceleration/ deceleration model. The system can accomplish off-line simulation. It can offer fix-time control, traffic-responsive control and the phase combination control.Finally, the phase combination is tested by the traffic micro-simulation system. The simulation experiment compares the effect of fix-time control, traffic-responsive control and the phase combination control. The results demonstrate that the phase combination control has a good effect.
