With the development of power generation units and the EHV transmission system, the importance of voltage quality become more and more prominent. Reactive power and voltage control effectively, not only to improve the quality of electric power networks, and enhance the security and stability of the power system, and also reduce power losses, improve the economic of power grid. Therefore voltage quality is not only an important duild line, but also the key factor which assure network security and economic performance in the modern electric power system, so voltage control must be implemented in power system. Automatic voltage control (AVC) is an important way to achieve this.In this paper, using the latest computer and communications technology, automatic voltage control system for power plant control equipment was studied. Firstly, we reviewed the composition and features automatic voltage control system, and research a new design of AVC system in power plant. This paper presents the design and implementation of hardware details. AVC system (power plant) include the main plant control cabinets, input and output cabinets, this kind of distributed system has high reliability, expansion of convenience features, and maintainability. Among them, the main control cabinet for the necessary allocation of one or more configurable input and output counters. The main control cabinet include the main controller, protocol converter, and internal communication bus. The main controller is the core of the whole system, which see after the primary mission. Protocol converter convert protocol between different communication device.To increase the reusability of system hardware, the CPU controller and protocol converter modules use the same AT91RM9200 processor which based on an 32-bit ARM9 core for reunification. equipped with different hardware modules make up the main controller and the protocol converter, The main controller and protocol conversion to a unified software, The system needs only the CPU board and a core set of software Protocol Converter to achieve full plate and the core functions of the exchange.Embedded Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) in the application control software improve the maintainability and reliability of the procedures, and was innovation in software development of the power system. Different task distinguish between different functions of the mission. For further development, such as ICE60870, ICE61850 protocol was based on the Ethernet communication. This paper port the lwIP Ethernet protocol stack into uC/OS-II to build a completely network function.
