The viscoelastic damper is a kind of effective passivity control device. It reduces the seismic response of structure by adding the damping and dissipating the seismic energy of the structure. The viscoelastic damper is economical and effective, and can be installed easily. So it has a broad application foreground, and become one of the hot problems within the seismic fortification techniques.In the paper, I analyzed the mechanical performance and calculation modal of the viscoelastic damper, discussed the design method of frame sturcutre with viscoelastic damper. The Optimum installation of the viscoelastic damper on the frame structure is so be analyzed.A finite element method SAP 2000 program is used to analyze the frame building with 12-layer.Two representative seismic waves are adopted to anylyze the two frame building with viscoelastic damper and no damper respectively. Through the time-history analysis, we got the comparison of seismic response of the structure(displacement, acceleration and velocity), and testified the efficiency of the viscoelastic damper. Three optimum installtions of viscoelastic damper are used on the frame structure. By contrasting the analyzing results,the differences of vibration control between three optimum installtions are given.The proposals in this paper can be used for the guidance of engineering design and pratical application.
