The remote data acquisition system has the most significance in electric power system field. In many electrical equipment cases, especially for some distributed and no watcher distribution equipments, we need to collect data at fixed time to know the equipment situation in time, then according to the situation send some simple control instructions. The realization mode of the traditional remote data acquisition system is that we construct and maintain the wire or wireless communication network, like this, not only the investment financing but also the financing for maintenance is expensive. With the development of the communication technology, the old remote data acquisition system hasn't already satisfied the multi-aspect demand increasingly, we need the communication mode which the cost is cheaper and the communication quality is better.So in this paper we present a wireless remote data acquisition based on GPRS, which applied in monitoring the running state of switchgear in distribution network and the situation of all distribution system. The detailed content is as following:In this system GPRS network is a medium for transmitting the remote signal. Based on researching and understanding GPRS network system structure and the communication principle and network protocols. Establish the tasks of communication, receiving and sending data by using AT command. As one of main design works, the core device of system hardware are ME3000 and microchip C8051F340, finally accomplish all designs of data acquisition unit with peripheral circuit and prototype development,which can implement data acquisition and demote communication. Then we introduce the software design of the system, it includes the monitoring center software and remote data acquisition subsidiary station. The monitoring center software is designed with Visual C++.The main computer connects with communication module by Socket interface, and finishes the interface design and the function of receiving and transmitting and saving data. The part of remote data acquisition subsidiary station includes the programme GPRS module, module communication and data acquisition. At the same time, transmitting data are encrypted using TEA algorithm.At the last, experiment is carried out on accomplishing the basis system design and prototype make, which result indicates that the remote data acquisition system is satisfied with the requirement of electric power system. It plays a secure part in reliable running of distribution network, and it can build better foundation for fulfilling the true meaning distribution automation.
