As the fast process of urbanization and the development of scientific technique, many residential districts with different complicated types, diversiform layouts and huge scope are built largely, so the outdoor wind environment of resident1al districts is noticed by people. The outdoor thermal environment, the indoor natural ventilation and the residential energy consume are affected by the outdoor wind environment of residential districts profoundly. At present, there exits the research focus on how to make well outdoor wind environment for residential districts and supply safe, healthy, comfortable and energy-conservation outdoor wind environment for residents. But the outdoor wind environment is involved in many factors, such as the landform and physiognomy, the layout of architecture groups, the type of architecture, the distance between buildings and wind angle et al. the outdoor wind environment of residential districts will be studied from the two aspects of the wind angle and the architecture layout in the paper.There exits two most common methods to study the outdoor wind environment of residential districts at the pedestrian level, namely, wind tunnel experiment and computer numerical simulation. The computer numerical simulation method has some virtues of low cost, short period and intuitive expression, so it is applied widely. The software of"Fluent"is mainly used to simulate the outdoor wind environment of the urban residential districts at the pedestrian level in this paper.Based on the main study harvests of the former researchers, firstly, the evaluated criterion of outdoor wind environment of the residential districts at the pedestrian level is proposed, it is the base of the study in this paper. Then the turbulent flow basic equation and the numerical disperse and resolution method based on the even Navier-Stokes equation and the RNG k ?εturbulence model is set up, according to the CFD numerical simulation theory, the existed wind tunnel experimental model overseas is used to carry on the numerical simulation analysis, and the numerical simulation result and the wind tunnel experimental result is compared to validate the reliability and validity of the numerical result. Based on these, the wind environment of five simple architecture layouts at different wind angles is analyzed, some qualitative and quantitative relationship are found out between each layout's wind environment and wind angle, it has the profoundly instructional meanings for the prophase planning of residential districts.At last, the above five simple architecture layouts are arrayed according to certain orderliness, they are consisted of different layouts'residential districts; and these residential districts with larger scales and diversiform layouts are analyzed with numerical simulation method, some qualitative relationship which show the affect to outdoor wind environment of residential districts at the pedestrian level by the layout mode are found out, it has the academic and referenced value for city construction and residential district planning.
