The electrical equipment on Electric Propulsion Ship plays an important role in the navigation. To guarantee the safty of life and property, it's significant to predict the fault of the running electrical equipment. Among the fault of electrical equipment, overheat is the initial manifestations. This paper summarizes all the methods which can implement the electrical equipment overheat monitoring and all the advantages and disadvantages of each method. At last, this paper designs an electrical equipment overheat monitoring system based on ZigBee to monitor the overheat of electrical equipment.During the system design, it chooses TI's CC2430 as main chip and designs the sensor node and coordinator. Based on these, it builts the hardware platform. In order to save the energy of sensor node, it adopts the controllable power method. At the same time, it chooses the Z-Stack as the base of software and designs the application program and the format of communication frame. In order to extend the life of sensor node effectively, it adopts the dynamic sleep and controllable transmit power method. In addition to the above, it adopts the NI's Labview as platform and designs the PC's monitoring sofeware. At the same time, it tests the whole electrical equipment overheat monitoring system in laboratory and verifies the reliability of the system.The electrical equipment overheats monitoring system based on ZigBee desined by this paper achives the accurate measurement of electrical equipment temperature and prevents the limitation of measuring temperature of high voltage electrical equipment by cable. At the same time, it archives the goal of preventing overheat and provides an effective solution for the monitoring system on electric propulsion ship.
