In order to meet the needs of geological information management and realizing visualization for engineering geological analysis in hydraulic and hydroelectric engineering, based on database, image and graphics and related data structure technology, and combined with engineering geological theory, a system which integrates database management and maintenance and three-dimensional visualization of geological information is established.Taking hydraulic and hydroelectric engineering as mainly applied and practiced object, VisualDRM30 system is developed which includes research contents as following.(1) Complete the construction of VisualDRM3D main frame structure and the overall design of the system. The system has been planed generally including database, geological data analysis, engineering geological modeling, engineering geological analysis and results output subsystem, and each function module of the subsystem, the sub system and the function of its module, and the links between each other and their interface.(2) Establish a database system for processing geological information, ensuring data collection, interpretation and analysis library establishment for 3D geological modeling, which provides an effective means for management and maintenance of engineering geological information and an data support for the late 3Dgeological modeling. (3)Through using relevant data structure, coupling multiple data, integraing engineering geology, structural geology and other related theories, through establishing geological model, taking Windows operating system as a platform, and combined with image and graphics technology, 3D visualization of geological information is realized.(4) Base on geological characteristics of hydraulic and hydroelectric engineering, taking Maerdang hydropower station in Qinghai province as an example, geological modeling methods of hydraulic and hydroelectric engineering have been systematically studied in order to provide effective management means, visualization and analysis platform for numerous and jumbled information of the actual project.
