Infectious Bursal Disease(IBD) caused by Infectious Bursal Disease Virus (IBDV) is an urgent infection which harms mainly yang hens. The mechanism of NangBingKang (N.B.K.), a preparation of Chinese Herbal herbal in prevention and treatment against infectious bursal disease was studied by artificial infection to the hens. The result of experiments indict: The ratio of protection by N.B.K. against IBDV was 100%. The curative ratio of N.B.K. was 96%, which is 60% higher than that of the moroxydine group,And 8% higher than that of the yolk antibody group respectively ; The busal atrophy in either the N.B.K. group or the yolk antibody group is found to be more severe than that of the group treated with chemical medications and of the positiv control group (P>0.05), respectively.the spleen index in the N.B.K.group is higher than that of the Chemical-treated group, the yolk antibody group ,the positive control group or the negative control group , respectively(p>0.05); the thymus index in the N.B.K.treated group is lower than that of the yolk antibody group (p<0.05) and had a trend to increase compared with that of the positive control group; The antibody titer of the positive group was the highest whenever before or after experiments, while the titer In the N.B.K. group was low relatively; The glucocorticoids(GC) contents in the blood of the positive control group increased greatly ,and significant differences were found after experiment compared with those of the N.B.K.group and of the negative control group; The N.B.K.could prevent the peripheral blood lymphocytes of hens from decreasing in quantity and as a result, increased the amount of the neutrophil cells of the infected hens at last; The amount of the peripheral blood lymphocytes(PBL) which is positive to acid -naphthyl acetate esterase(ANAE) of the peripheral blood lymphocytes decreased a little in the N.B.K. treated group in the comparison with the control group(p<0.05); The diameter of the bacteriostatic area of the N.B.K. to E.coli strain of O78 is 13mm,which suggests that O78 is the middle sensitive to N.B.K; The amount of the GOT in blood of hens is lower in the N.B.K. group than in the positive control group(p<0.05); the amount of the uric acid(UC) is far lower in the N.B.K. group than in the control group(pO.Ol); the amount of BUN is lower in the N.B.K. group than in the control group too, yet the difference is significant (p>0.05); The acute toxicity test suggests that LD50 is 21.5g/Kg at least, and the N.B.K. is safe and no side-effects.
