The uteri of 12 clinically healthy bitches and 50 bitches with a clinical signs of pyometra were examined histologically using a computerized image analysis system. Histologic lesions were characterized mainly by thickening or atrophy of the endometrium and 'by varying degree of cystic changes of the glands. In most of the ill bitches a variable degree of inflammation also found though some bitches were misdiagnosed as pyometra had no inflammatory reaction in the uterus. Based on the results of studies, 3D bitches were classified in the pyometra (hyperplastic) group. The average area(%) of endometrium occupied by gland lumina is 35.87±8.18 and an endometrium/myometrium ratio is 1.114±0.430.The changes in morphology of endometria of clinical healthy bitches and pyometra dogs were studied by using scan electron microscopy. The structures of endometria were full or partially destroyed by the process of pyometra and endometritis. The surfaces of endometria were accidented. The structures of normal tissue and opening of glands could not be seen. The secretory cells bulged cystically with a honeycomb appearance even capsular space could be seen through the broken point. All contents of each uteri were incubated aerobicaiiy. The organisms were identified on the basis of their biochemical characters and in vitro drug sensitivity test were carried out. The bacteria isolated were predominantly Escherichia coli(55.10%). Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, B-hemolytic streptococcus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis and Corynebacterium were also isolated. The results of clinical bitches were sterile. The sensitivity of E. coli with ampicillin frequently used in clinic was 51.85% while the sensitivity with Cefoperazone, Aztreona and Nitrorurantoin were 100%.
