The shortage of water resources has badly hindered the sustainable development of economy and society in our country. As the most widely used water-saving irrigation mode, pipeline irrigation has grown rapidly in the last two decades, also it has a wide foreground in the future. Because the traditional planning and designing of pipeline irrigation takes too much time, the thesis establish a computer-aided design system for single-well irrigation district and small type pumping irrigation district, which can push the development of pipeline irrigation.Based on the develop platform, this paper develops a computer-aided design system for single-well irrigation district and small type pumping irrigation district with Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0, which assists the users to choose pipe diameter and pumps under different conditions, such as the irrigation area, the location of pumping stations and the corresponding layout of the pipe network. Furthermore, this system, with a good human-computer interface, can automatically complete the general layout for a well irrigation district and a small type pumping irrigated district, such as the arrangement of pipes, the calculation of discharge and pipe diameter, the determination of intervals between ditchs, the selection of pump types, the workout of engineering budget, the economic analysis of the project, the auto drawing of piping diagram, the auto creation of programming report of the project, etc. The computer-aided design system for single-well- irrigation district and small type pumping irrigation district can also optimize the pipe diameters. Moreover, a new OO(Object Oriented)programming method is adopted in this system, various software can be dispathed by the "Automation" technique in VB, thus the computer-aided system integrates various software to be a same platform. For example, the system can easily finish the auto drawing of piping diagram with AutoCAD, the programming report of the project with Word, the workout of engineering budget with Excel and the database checking of pipes and pumps with Acess. In order to calculate the space between ditchs in thefield more quickly, Genetic Algorithm, an advanced method at present, is adopted in this paper. To optimize the diameter of pipes, the GRG method is used for the purpose of minimizing the annual expenses to obtain the best and feasible schemes. In this paper, the essential steps and key points of the programming method are introduced in details, and the development and function of each part as well. The computer-aided design system has the characteristics such as simple and convenient operation, friendly interface and fast speed. The programming results are reasonable and practicable.
