Since the founding of New China, our country has carried out comprehensive and systematic inventory of forest resources for five times and accumulated rich forest resource base thematic maps and data. Traditional forest resources information management is dominated by small-scale database technology, then applications only on the local forest resources statistics. And the data applications are inefficient and can not give full play to the practical application of data value. With the development of forestry information, every forestry center is facing the problem that sharing forest resource. Then it is of great significance that using Web service technology, database technology, GIS technology and other modern means to develop forest resources information technology projects, achieve forest resources information openness.And effectiveness can be shared on the rational use of forest resources, protection of biodiversity and improve the ecological environment.This paper researches how to establish a platform for forestry information sharing on Web service to share the forestry GIS database. Such platform can issue forest resources information in electronic map form on the Internet, not only timely understand the distribution and development status of forest resources but also achieve data sharing, unify the management and make decision conveniently.This paper takes the forest management inventory data about forest resources of the Hunan Province as the foundation data, uses the B/S model to design the system and construct "the basic frame of the platform about forestry GIS database share based on Web service", takes ESRI Corporation's ArcIMS as the GIS application server and uses ASP (Active Server Page) script program code to exploit the sharing platform. In this system the server uses the Servlet technology and the client uses the Java Applet to release the Web map data to achieve data sharing. After standardly processing all data, the author uses the Oracle to store and manage the spatial data and the attribute data and optimizes performance to store integratively the spatial data and the attribute data of the forest management inventory. Thinking of the reliability and stability, manageability, expansionary, and structural complexity of the network and the prevailing security problems, the author takes proactive measures to ensure the security of data.
