Abstract/Summary:
objective: To study the value of VEGF and PCNA in the diagnosis and treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma, theexpressions of VEGF and PCNA in oral squamous cell carcinoma and normal tissues were investigated using immunohistochemical staining method.Methods: Thirty-four pathological samples of primary oral squamous cell carcinoma and fifteen samples of normal tissues were collected from 1999 to 2001. In order to detect the VEGF and PCNA in the tissue, two slides were immunohistochemically stained and one slides was used as negative control using PBS as the first antibody. Immunohistochemically stained yellow-brown particles appeared in plasma in VEGF positive group. The percentage of positive cells was calculated in 5 randomly selected fields under light microscope and it was defined as positive case with which positive rate is over 25%. Cellular nuclear was stained yellow-brown in PCNA positive group and the ratio of positive cell over 25% was defined as positive.Results: VEGF was positively expressed in endothelial cells of carcinoma tissue and plasma of carcinoma cells, and the positive cells were focally distributed. The positive rate of VEGF and PCNA in oral squamous carcinoma was higher than that of normal tissue(p<0.01), and the positive rate was positively related with pathological degrees.Conclusions: The tests of VEGF and PCNA may be used as clinical subsidiary diagnostic indexes of oral squamous cell carcinoma, and which has significances in defining the biological feature and clinical prediction of oral squamous cell carcinoma.
