Backgroud and Objective:Bladder carcinoma is the most common cancer of genitourinary tract, and over 90% of bladder cancers are of transitional cell origin. Recurrence of transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder is high. More than 50% to 70% of superficial tumors recur within 5 years, while 30% of them progress to invasive disease. The therapy for bladder cancer is less effective just because of the early recurrence. A lot of investigations had been carried out to determine the molecularly biological mechanisms which contributed to the progression of bladder cancer. Apoptosis, which is the most common form of cell death, is gene directed, under the influence of a number of well characterized genes and proteins. As a new member of inhibitor apoptosis protein (IAP) family, Survivin is undetectable in normal adult tissues, however it is overexpressed in several human cancer cells.
