| In modern time, a sports activity has become one indispensable part in people's daily life. And sports have become the sign of social civilization. With China's opening up to the rest of the world and the social progress, more and more people pay more attention to sports. We can say that sports have become one necessary part of people's life. So the study of sports news language has attracted many scholars. As a part of news reporting, sports news possesses its distinctive features apart from of the general characteristics that all types of news already have, such as: it is more entertaining, more professional and more attracting to the readers. And also, there are so many technical terms and phrases. Besides, many long sentences and colloquial sentences are used through the whole sports news. This thesis focuses on English sports news only, trying to find its characteristics. Then we focus our study on the translation of English sports news from the perspective of Nida's equivalence theory. We hope this thesis will give the sports news translators some help and suggestions in their daily work.
