The research of Pop Literature used to be very widespread during the study of Chinese literature in the 20th century, which had a vital position. However, looking the situation of research on Pop Literature worries us seriously. In one side, Pop Literature has an ill-defined concept. Many scholars still doubt that whether Pop Literature research can be an independent subject. In the other side, Pop Literature has fuzzy boundaries. Scholars usually consider the Pop Literature as same as folklore or demotic literature or plain language literature. So I think, among all the reasons why Pop Literature getting into embarrassment, the most fundamental one is that they didn't correctly understand Zheng's Pop Literature definition in the historical language environment. Because of that, all the researches on it went into wrong ways. Zheng's Pop Literature theory is not only a Success of initiate and a Riddle of history, but also a root of a Debate among subjects. Through all my comparative analysis, I have some conclusions, that is, Zheng's Pop Literature theory has progressive significance at his time, what's more, we can absorb and draw upon it nowadays. Of course, we can not deny that Zheng had some gap between his theory and his practice. But it didn't destroy his great contribution in the Pop Literature history. In the end, I suggest the best explanation to Zheng's Pop Literature definition and clear off the differences between Pop Literature and other close subjects. I believe it can offer some thinking to the subject's building and future development to the Pop Literature.
