The Chinese idioms are the most folk lexical units, which contains the profound Chinese culture and the most authentic and folk Chinese customs. These idioms have always been the interest for foreigners in Teaching of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL), including the traditional Chinese idioms and those newly emerged ones.Within the Chinese cultural circle, China and Korea, in their cultural exchange, have learnt and developed from each other in languages, which provides some help for those Korean overseas students. At the same time, these students still feel difficult to learn Chinese because of the differences of these two languages and cultures, and the differences in the forms and concepts of their own idioms, leading to many mistakes and misunderstandings in their learning process. As a result, if they do not do a special study on the idioms, these students will have difficulty in understanding the meanings of the Chinese idioms by just studying the daily grammatical rules. Therefore, it is necessary to have a research on finding out the effective methods to learn Chinese idioms. This thesis consists of four parts. Chapter one is introduction, including the reasons for the topic, the research results of the previous studies and research methods. Chapter Two makes a summary of the definitions and characteristics of the Chinese idioms on the basis of the previous studies, which paves the way for the detailed analysis in the following chapters. Chapter three demonstrates the significance of the Chinese idioms in Teaching of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL). Chapter four makes a comparison between Chinese and Korean idioms, presenting their similarities and differences, and has a discussion on some problems and solutions in the teaching of Chinese idioms. Chapter five is the conclusion of this thesis:if Korean overseas students can understand the Chinese idioms correctly, they can not only use these rich expressions in their daily conversations, but also get a better understanding of Chinese culture and Chinese people. I hope they will become interested in these idioms and use them in a more vivid and natural way.
