Research On The Definition Of The Modern Chinese Dictionary

The new edition of the Modern Chinese Dictionary is named"the fifth treasure of the study"and reflects the intelligence as well as the hard work of chinese scholars. Up to present,the Modern Chinese Dictionary has been amended for five times. It has a great deal of users and at the same time it's also the most trustful reference book as well as the most authoritative one in China. Even if it is irreplaceable, but it's not faultless. The accuracy and sufficiency of definition are the primary criterions to judge a dictionary. By analyses, there are some deficiencies to elaborate. To find the problems, to analyze the cause of them and to generalize some appropriate methods of definition are the main points in this thesis.With the comparative method and linguistical theories, part of denotations between the two editions Mordern Chinese Dictionary( 1978 & 2005) are analyzed. There are three aspects to do it. That is: Finding out the distinctions between the corresponding definitions; summarizing the knotty problems and settling it; attempting some ways to define fuzzy words. In the end, several puzzles are brought up, some more time and energy are needed to finish it.
