Summary:This essay is mainly divided into two sections. The first section is to analyze the usage of the modal particle " ne" in the interrogative sentence, the declarative sentence and the interjectional sentence in The Surrounded City according to the specific context to conclude the meaning and the usage of "ne". It is roughly divided into the following four types:1.To doubt. It can only be used non-yes-no question sentences, such as a specific interrogation, an alternative question, a rhetorical question and so on. It cannot be used in the yes-no question sentences.2. To pause, It is mostly used in a declarative sentence. In some sentences, it expresses a meaning of contrast.3. To state a fact. It plays an accentual function. Sometimes it eases or emphasizes the tone of the characters.4. To continue an action.After the analysis of the sentences of "ne", the second section will deal with an survey about some biased errors of the usage of the modal particle "ne" among the exchange students whose native language is English as well as the reasons for the errors. And make some suggestions about these so as to help them to learn the modal particle "ne" well.
