With the social development and the accelerated pace of life, interpersonal communication is also increasingly demanding efficient. In today's information explosion, increasing the amount of information of exchanging, and for the exchange of time is brooks no delay, in which case the exchange rate of people's pursuit can only turn to the linguistic signs of compression, so the expression of the same Information needs of linguistic signs as less as possible. Many need more than the original language as symbolic expression of the information is compressed into fewer symbols in the amount of information the same language - which formed a large number of abbreviations.This article from the Angle of word-formation of Chinese and English abbreviations, does a comparison in word-formation motivation, word-building type, cut effect etc of them. Meanwhile we try to find the trail of English abbreviations going into Chinese by the way of English abbreviations translation. This article writes mainly from the synchronic aspect and our research methods conclude logic reasoning, data analysis, classification comparison, law summary, etc. Corpus of the paper are from dictionarys of abbreviations, network BBS and qq chat room and some one that commonly used by chatting tools or network articles .Innovations of the paper : 1. Based on ontology research of Chinese and English abbreviations, we explore the motivation of abbreviation word-formation. Chinese is morpheme text as while as Enlish is phonemes language, this is the basic of the paper, the difference of word-formation motivation is according to this . 2. In the part of abbreviation classification , we talk both the classical and the new types of it and going to coparies the exploring trend of Chinese and English abbreviations. 3.Through coparising the cut effect of the two abbreviatons on pronunciation and written form, we know the real effection of this two ones . We analyzed the data and find the reasons which cause the differences.Limited to personal ability, it can't reach an end type study. Some aspects did not good enough. Not only the analyzes is not much thoroughly or comprehensive , but also the corpus is not much wide or newly to get more abbrevions in which might more representative or could respect the society well. This is the defect of this paper.
