This paper studies six types of Verb-complement construction in Xi You ii, and analyses their internal structures, which consists of seven sections. The first section of paper counts verbs and adjectives, which are acted as complement in Xi You ji, and indicate complicated semantic relation between Verb-complement and subject, object by charts. By comparing Xi You ji with Ru Lin Wai shi, we find that resultant complement in Xi You ji is the same as Ru Lin Wai shi. In the second section, a discussion is made about semantic difference in directional complements and some regulations of which De/Jiang/Le(~/~#/T) are used in different directional complements. Through the comparison Xi You ji, Ru Lin Wai shi and contemporary works, changes in directional complements from modem Chinese to contemporaly Chinese can be seen. The third section analyses semantic and component relation of descriptive complement with De(~). By comparing Xi You ji with Ru Lin Wai shi, descriptive complements acted as paragraph, which often was used in colloquial works of Song and Yuan Dynasties, disappeared in Ru Lin Wai shi. The forth section analyses semantic difference between positive potentials complements and negative potential complements and lists all forms which appear in Xi You ji and Ru Lin Wai shi. We find æ¤ ~f7{Z COC?had already appeared in Ru Lin Wai shi, which is often used in contemporary Chinese. The fifth section is occupied with complement acted as prepositional phrase. We explain the sentence pattern of æ¤+O+P+NP? which is always used in ancient Chinese, rarely appears in contemporary Chinese. The sixth section is concerned with number-quantifier phrases acted as complement, and analyses order of object and complement, and the seventh is the conclusion. Through expounding, we can conclude that Verb-complement have changed from modem Chinese to contemporary Chinese. This is very helpful for us to understand characteristics of modem Chinese.
