Having been separated for half a century, Mainland and Taiwan practise different political'systems, -which has created a certain discrepancies in their customs, Civing styles and even language expressions. The discrepancies of Chinese computer terms applied in the both sides of the strait are even bigger. It has affected not only the exchanges of information technology and trading activities but aCso the processing of language information. 'With the ever increasing exchanges of technology, business activities and academic research, it is inevitable to standardize and unify the computer terms, for-which analysis and research shouCd be carried out by means of comparison to find out the discrepancies and the common points, to standardize some computer terms -which are quite different, to establish a standardized terms ban^in -which the relevant vocabularies used in the both sides of the strait are luted along -with the original English terms. This unification of computer terms can only be reached through narro-wing the existing discrepancies. Tor this purpose, the joint efforts of the government departments and experts and scholars are needed.Through data analysis for a certain number of the computer terms used in the both sides of the strait from the angle of linguistics to find out the -words -which are discrepant or in common in their forms, their meanings and translation, this article is -written to analyze the cause of the discrepancies and its all-round impact and put forward the suggestion for the standardization and unification of Chinese computer terms.
