A Comparison Of Oil Painting Teaching Between Xu Beihong And Liu Haisu

The modern education of fine arts offers us one new way to study the latest 100-year fine arts. The reason why I select Xu Beihong and Liu Haisu as my research objects is that they play a great role in the history of latest 100-year fine arts education. Xu Beihong and Liu Haisu lived in the same times; They both went abroad to study and came back jumping into the educational cause of fine arts; They both had the same ideal pushing Chinese fine arts to modernization and popularization. But they did not work together all along and they had different methods on education. No matter when we look back upon the history of the modern education of fine arts, or studying Xu Beihong and Liu Haisu's personal arts, their dramatic educational experiences make us think deeply. This paper mainly includes the following parts: The first part is the foreword: Chinese oil painting education structure was formed in the first half of 20 century. Narrate the background of the time and put forward the writing purpose of this paper. The second part discusses Xu Beihong 's teaching of oil painting from the following three aspects: 1. The worldview of "art is life"; 2. The educational thought of " turns over fake and seeks reality"; 3. Xu Beihong 's teaching of oil painting.The third part discusses Liu Haisu's teachings of oil painting also from the following three aspects: 1. The idea of "aesthetic education saves country"; 2. The teaching thought "broad,concise,deep and beauty"; 3. Liu Haisu's teaching of oil painting.â…¡The forth part discusses the reasons of their oil painting teaching discrepancies. The teaching discrepancy of oil painting was caused by their different artistic views, which were related to family background and studying drawing experiences. The family background and afterwards growing up surroundings formed their sharply different characters, thus causing their different artistic styles. Their artistic views were mostly different and a few common. Through the analysis of their artistic views we can find their different experience. Xu Beihong insisted to realistic doctrine, kept to the "rational" route and got the splendid achievement. But Liu Haisu, with unconventional character, keeping to the route of "perceptual", also reached outstanding achievement.The fifth part is epilogue, a conclusion of this paper. The "two routes" bring up two great masters, and bring us deep thought.
