The Study Of Rhyming System From Sichuan In The Song Dynasty

By making an exhaustive study of the rhyming of 22248poems written by 408 poets, who were from Sichuan inthe Song Dynasty, the article has generalized theirrhyming system which consists of 17 rhyme categories, thatis to say, 7Yin-sheng, 6 Yang-sheng and 4 Ru-shengCompared with the system used in the common language in the Song Dynasty, it has merged category Zhen-wen into category Geng-qing , and the new one is called category Zhen-qing .Some dialect information has revealed in the rhyming system used by the poets from Sichuan , for example, category Ge contacts with category Hao , Yu with You ,Zhi with Yu , Dong with Yang, Yang-ping branches and so on. However, there is no dialect sign in modern dialects in Sichuan for particular historic reason, but it is most close to the rhyming characteristics in Fujian in the Song Dynasty and modern dialects in Fujian .The reason, perhaps, is that the two areas have the same immigrants speaking same dialects, and the two dialects take the same forms in the similar processes.In a word, the language used in the rhyming system in Sichuan is the common language but is much influenced by dialects, in other words, the regional variants of the common language.
